MSN

In the early rising days of the internet Microsoft focused on home users who had internet connections and developed multiple applications for them. I had the wonderful opportunity to work on some of them, such as MSN Explorer and MSN Messenger.

MSN Explorer was the one-in-all solution for home users and families. It offered internet connection service and all the key functionalities: E-mail, Web browsing, and chatting with friends and more.

I worked as a product designer on 2 versions of MSN Explorer before moving on to Windows. My contributions were: First time use, Parental Controls, Favorites, Settings and the redesign of Hotmail (after Microsoft had aqcuired the webmail tool).

Nowadays we all chat away on our phones, but this started on our computers, in apps like MSN Messenger. I got to work on the first 2 versions of it, defining some of the basics of chat interaction and experience, such as the typing indicator. I also worked on various 'Wizards' (the early versions of task-flows) , settings, and icons for both Messenger, Outlook Express and Hotmail. It's a long time ago :-) Many features we take for granted now and can't live without: it was once envisioned, designed, and realized. I'm proud and grateful for being part of these early inventions.
